sleepmakeswaves release new single 'Zelda' from forthcoming 'Out of Hours' EP
Following the announcement of new dates for their rescheduled 'these are not your dreams' Australian tour, Sydney post-rockers sleepmakeswaves have released a new single 'Zelda.'
The track comesfrom the forthcoming ‘Out of Hours’ EP which forms part of the band’s ‘theseare not your dreams’ trilogy, due out in July. The release follows theirARIA-nominated albums Made of Breath Only(2017) and Love of Cartography (2014).
‘Zelda’ is a unique shift in sound for the usually entirely instrumental band – it features a prominent lead vocal throughout the song. With lyrics penned and sung by guitarist Otto Wicks-Green, it’s the first true foray into traditional lead vocal territory for the band. Although they’ve experimented with vocals before (including January’s well-received single ‘Cascades’), it’s never been as much at the forefront as this.
The ‘Out ofHours’ EP as a whole showcases more of the band’s 90s alternative/emoinfluences, whilst still retaining all the powerhouse drive and emotionalimpact of their trademark instrumental writing.
All music wasentirely self produced, recorded & mixed by the band. Rather than followinga conventional release pattern, the band have opted to release this collectionof tracks as a series of 3 EPs during 2020, which will then be released in fullin July as part of the ‘these are not your dreams’ physical record.
From theband:
‘Zelda’ is a bit of a departure for us. We’re trying to push the edges of what this band can do and play in these new spaces that call on different aspects of our influences. This is a bit of 90s posthardcore jangle with some shouting. We like it.
